Semi-trailers (semi-trailers) are non-motorized towed units that are pulled by a tractor unit. However, they have their own license plate. They transfer part of their weight to the tractor unit to which they are connected via the so-called kingpin. The standard tarpaulin semi-trailer has a maximum internal dimension of 13.625 x 2.48 x 2.70 m. The trailers are distinguished from each other by the different types of bodywork. The refrigerated box body with (usually) its own refrigeration unit offers a smooth and uninterrupted cold chain from the manufacturer to the consumer market (the certified units according to the “FRC” standard, which are offered by the manufacturer Carrier Vector, for example, are popular). Sensitive or perishable goods can thus survive long transportation routes, guaranteeing freshness for the end consumer. The jumbo semi-trailer makes it possible to transport bulky goods at favorable conditions thanks to its higher interior. However, the permissible payload remains the same. Standard curtainsider trailers offer space for up to 34 Euro pallet spaces and are therefore ideal for long-distance transportation. Depending on the load, there are different types of body for curtainsider trailers, such as the Edscha roof. This allows crane loading from above. The coil body provides a secure loading surface for all types of metal rolls when transporting steel. Its side metal stanchions allow steel pipes to be transported and its sliding tarpaulin enables a partial load to be loaded and unloaded from the side (e.g. at the front or in the middle). The tipper semi-trailer can quickly unload and transport large quantities of earth or rubble on construction sites.
